Your bedroom is a place to relax, to feel comfortable and safe and as a result blue is the most recommended bedroom colour. Blue brings down blood pressure and slows breathing as well as the heart rate. This is the colour we think of when we think of calm, relaxing and serene spaces. A warning though, blue can be a cold colour, so look out for softer warmer shades of blue and accent them with white curtains, ceilings, doors and window frames – for a gentle and relaxing space.  Take care with dark blues – which could  evoke feelings of sadness rather than calm.

If you are unsure of blue, try the lighter variations of lilac which bring the same restful quality to bedrooms as blue, but without the risk of feeling chilly.

Another colour to consider with a bedroom is Green

One of the most restful colours for the eye. Green combines the refreshing and relaxing qualities of blue with the cheerfulness of yellow and encourages unwinding while bringing enough warmth to promote comfort and togetherness. It is also believed to help with fertility, making it a great choice for the bedroom.  Again choose lighter shades of green – sage green (which has a grey undertone, is especially beautiful.

Colours to avoid in a bedroom:

  • Red may be the colour of passion, but it is a high energy colour and so more suitable for a social space than a relaxing one.
  • Yellow is another high energy colour and so not suited to bedroom. Avoid it in particular for babies rooms as yellow has been found to promote crying. Too much yellow can also create feelings of frustration and anger, which are not emotions to bring to your sleeping area
  • Orange as it is stimulating colour and to be used sparingly in a bedroom

Sleep and Relaxation

Using the Blue oil at night also promotes sleep and calms the mind.  Brilliant for all ages.  Soak in the bath with a healthy dose of Blue Light Matrix oil or simply rub it onto the neck and forehead and watch the magic happen.
